Schmidt Science Fellows Postdoc Opportunity (sciences, engineering, computer science) May 3, 2022 Deadline
Application portal: https://ucla.infoready4.com/#
Deadline: May 3, 2022
UCLA is able to nominate up to FOUR recent or upcoming Ph.D. recipients to compete for an interdisciplinary postdoctoral opportunity offered through the Schmidt Science Fellows program.
This program is guided by the understanding that, in order to address the most pressing challenges and improve lives, scientists need to draw from across numerous disciplines, using a broad view to apply new techniques. The aim of the program is to develop scientific leaders who have the interdisciplinary skills and perspectives needed to accelerate the discovery of solutions to the most pressing contemporary issues.
This is a unique postdoctoral program that includes:
- The opportunity to undertake full-time postdoctoral study for 12-24 months in a world-leading laboratory in a field different from the applicant's existing area of expertise with a stipend of $100,000 per year.
- Participation in a Global Meeting Series where Fellows are exposed to new research, leading thinkers and institutions, and professional development opportunities
While the program provides an extraordinary opportunity for Fellows, applicants must be willing to commit to the requirements of the program (which necessitate a willingness to make an interdisciplinary research pivot and to move to join a world-leading laboratory). Prior to submitting an internal application it is highly recommended to review the recent recipients of the Fellowship (here: https://schmidtsciencefellows.
- Completion or expectation to complete all requirements for conferral of Ph.D. by UCLA between June 1, 2022 and July 30, 2023
- The Ph.D. must have been in one of the following fields (or any sub-discipline therein):
- Natural Sciences (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Sciences)
- Engineering
- Mathematics
- Computing
