Negotiating Effective Environmental Agreements Course - Berkeley, CA Oct. 19-20

CONCUR’s intensive two-day workshop is designed to meet the needs of professionals and graduate students alike who are in a position to advise on or negotiate environmental agreements.   The training is also an excellent opportunity for   graduate students to gain insight into this important field and mingle with mid career professionals. In this course, we show you how the process of face-to-face negotiation can augment traditional policy making with creative agreements that are better informed and more stable. During the training, course participants will learn the elements of mutual gains bargaining, apply them in a series of hands-on negotiation simulations, and troubleshoot how you personally can apply these tools to everyday work situations. Course topics include: *Watershed management, flood protection, and habitat restoration *Strategies to strengthen sustainable US fisheries *Air quality management plans *Coastal and marine spatial planning stakeholder en...

CEE 249 Structural Engineering Seminar UCLA Civil & Environmental Engineering Department RESILIENCE AND INTERDEPENDENCIES OF CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURES DURING EMERGENCIES Dr. Gian Paolo Cimellaro Associate Professor in Structural Engineering Department of Structural, Geotechnical & Building Engineering (DISEG), Politecnico di Torino The fundamental concepts of “community resilience” are analyzed and a common reference framework is established.   Several applications of the framework are presented for strategic facilities (e.g. hospitals and schools) and infrastructure networks (e.g. gas, water, power etc.) that are the basis of life and economy of every community. The hospital and the school are assumed located in California and retrofitted with two different strategies. First, the traditional performance-based earthquake evaluation tools are used to estimate the repair costs and the downtimes which are used as input of the proposed methodology to evalua...

ILTI Spring 2015 Course Offerings

Innovative Learning Technology Initiative (ILTI) - Spring 2015 Classes   These classes can be enrolled in by students at any of the nine UC campuses in an effort to broaden their education, increase their online learning opportunities, meet general education requirements and complete course requirements for their majors in a timely fashion.   Registration opens this coming Monday, February 9, 2015 .  Students can enroll in courses through the Cross-Campus Enrollment website @ http://crossenroll.universityofcalifornia.edu/ , and find detailed class descriptions and credit values.

Spring 2015 Registration

Spring 2015 registration is right around the corner! Here are a few tips...       View the Spring 2015 Online Schedule of Classes: Click HERE   When can I start enrolling? Check MyUCLA for your appointment time. Graduate appointments begin February 12th. View the Registrar's Spring 2015 Academic Calendar for more information. How many units do I need to take? All graduate students must enroll in at least 12 units. - Most MS students will reach 12 units by taking 3 required/elective courses toward their MS program plus seminar. Those who need additional units to meet the minimum 12 may take CEE 597A: Preparation for the M.S. Comp Exam or CEE 598: Research & Prep for the M.S. Thesis. I can't find CEE 249 or 259A (CEE Seminar)? The course number for seminar has changed to CEE 200. CEE 249 is now CEE 200 Section 1. CEE 259A is now CEE 200 Section 2. Do I have to enroll in seminar? All MS students must enroll in seminar each quarter. All PhD st...

Winter Registration Quick Tip

ATTN: All Graduate Students Required to Enroll in Seminar for Winter 2015 Question: I am looking at my Winter 2015 registration and I see that one of my required courses conflicts with the seminar course. What do I do? Answer: Be sure to enroll in both the required course and the seminar course. There will be enough seminars offered outside of the classroom meeting time posted online for you to fulfill the requirements of the seminar course. Please contact the CEE SAO at CEESAO@seas.ucla.edu if you would like to discuss further!

"Metal Oxide Sensors for Outdoor Air Quality Monitoring" Kristen Dorsey UC President's Postdoctoral Researcher Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department, UC San Diego Friday, November 21, 2014 38-138 Engineering IV Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM Abstract: Metal oxide gas sensors have been proposed as a solution for portable, outdoor air quality monitoring. Their low unit price and small form factor make them promising sensors for the detection of EPA-identified criteria gas pollutants. When exposed to a target gas, the conductivity of the metal oxide layer shifts, leading to a sensor response that is easily detected by readout circuitry. However, these sensors exhibit ...
