Summer Grad Workshop in Computational Social Science (Santa Fe Institute)
Santa Fe Institute (SFI) is hosting a summer workshop, Graduate Workshop in Computational Social Science Modeling and Complexity from June 26 - July 8, 2022, and the application deadline is February 22, 2022.
Program Name: Graduate Workshop in Computational Social Science Modeling and ComplexityCommon Name: Graduate WorkshopApplication Deadline: February 22, 2022Dates: June 26 – July 8, 2022
Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Focus: Participants will learn how to apply tools and approaches from complex systems and computation to questions in the social sciences, while advancing their independent research and working collaboratively with fellow participants.
Who it is for: The Workshop is aimed at Ph.D. students who ideally have completed a minimum of two years of Ph.D. study (or equivalent research experience) and are actively pursuing thesis research in computational social science. Our Graduate Workshop in Computational Social Sciences is a 2-week, highly selective program for graduate students in the social sciences who are looking to gain experience with computational modeling. Students bring their own research question to the workshop that they will pursue under the guidance of the faculty and invited experts. It’s ideal for students who have defined their dissertation research topic but who are looking to incorporate additional computational approaches - or who are eager for a broad perspective on their work. The workshop directors are Scott Page (“The Difference”, “The Model Thinker"), from U Michigan, and John H. Miller (“A Crude Look at the Whole”), from Carnegie Mellon. The workshop directors are External Faculty at SFI and experts in the field of computational social science and complexity who are passionate about training the next generation of scholars to effectively use complexity science techniques in their research. The workshop has a tuition of $2,475 associated with it, largely to cover accommodations, but we offer some tuition assistance. More information and a link to the application are found at santafe.edu/gwcss.
