Job Responsibilities & Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Contribute in product development process from ideation to launch
  • Understand numerical analysis algorithms and fundamentals of FEA e.g. mesh optimization, constitutive equations, material models, failure theories, fragility functions, explicit vs implicit methods
  • Perform advanced finite element analysis (FEA) with minimal supervision and extend its application to different applications e.g. fracture mechanics, vibration, fire, sound, blast
  • Design and conduct small and simple research projects independently
  • Contribute in the design and conduct of large and complicated projects
  • Conduct efficient literature survey and keep himself/herself updated with the online resources. Ability to read and comprehend technical papers with some help.
  • Contribute in the preparation of the product development plan including code reequipments, test plans, AHJ requirements etc.
  • Assist with the development of new design methodologies and procedures
  • Assist in the development of automated tools and software to maximize in-house engineering efficiency and overall business workflow.
  • Assist with the design, fabrication oversight, and testing of small scale (component level) and full-scale structural testing of new and existing structural systems and technologies.
  • Assist with the making test specimens, test setup, post-test investigation, forensic studies. Some heavy lifting might be required for this.
  • Prepare technical reports including detailed summaries of findings for approval agencies, in-house documentation and clients under minimal supervision
  • Manage responsibilities and tasks for self; prioritize and organize demands.
  • Keep up on latest industry and consumer trends by conducting efficient literature survey and attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, Internet research, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional societies.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • PhD (preferred) or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 2+ years of experience on the design and analysis of structural systems including steel, concrete or wood. Experience in the design of Aluminum, CFS and FRP is a plus
  • 3+ years of practical/academic efficient experience in linear and non-linear finite element analysis
  • Experience with physical testing is strongly preferred.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of engineering mechanics, structural systems, seismic design, computational mechanics and full-scale testing
  • Reasonable understanding of the material and geometric nonlinear finite element modeling and simulations and ability to analyze and interpret the results to make sound decisions.
  • Proficient in building and creating nonlinear material and geometric finite element models using LS-Dyna (preferred) or similar software. Ability to work with different material models including steel, concrete, wood and masonry. Ability to conduct fire, blast and vibration analysis is highly desired.
