CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: 2021-22 Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association Int'l Scholarship, DUE JUNE 4, 2021
The campus deadline is 4pm PDT, FRIDAY, JUNE 4, 2021. All materials, including the two letters of recommendation, must be received by this time at uclafellowship@grad.ucla.edu.
This is the call for the 2021-22 Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association International Scholarships. There will be one awardee from UCLA, receiving a stipend of $1,000. The application and faculty recommendation form are attached, as is the application checklist.
Selection criteria:
a. The award is intended for international students completing their graduate work. At UCLA, preference will be given to students formally advanced to doctoral candidacy at the time of application and who plan to return to their home country upon completion of the degree. Students are only eligible for one award (i.e., previous recipients cannot apply again).
b. Awardees are expected to be returning to their home country, preferably just after completing the degree. However, postdoctoral study has always been an area where some latitude has been permitted, especially where it is expected as “part of the degree” and/or is unobtainable in the home country. It is also recognized that political or economic conditions may prevent the student from returning home.
c. Awardees must have both academic excellence and significant financial need.
d. Awardees have to be fully enrolled throughout the coming academic year (all terms) to receive their scholarships. (Proof of enrollment is required to get the checks.) The filing fee is not considered “full enrollment.”
e. Awardees are not limited to persons who come from underdeveloped or developing countries.
f. Awards are made without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, age, or creed.
Submission instructions:
a. A single PDF file should be emailed to uclafellowship@grad.ucla.edu by the stated deadline: 4pm PDT, Wednesday, April 21, 2021. The contents of the PDF are listed on the attached Checklist.
b. The two letters of recommendation (LORs) should be submitted with the student’s application or emailed to uclafellowship@grad.ucla.edu on departmental letterhead and signed at the bottom of the letter. The LORs also need to be received by the deadline.
