Queers in STEM - First meeting Feb. 28
Short version -- Queers in STEM is having an interest meeting with free cookies and coffee on Wednesday, February 28th from 6-7PM in MS3915A. For the longer version, read below!
Longer version -- My name is Rob Ulrich and I am a graduate student in the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences. In the Fall, a few other students and I started an organization called Queers in STEM with the goal of creating a space for LGBTQ+ graduate and undergraduate students (and allies) in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Since we are just starting up, our initial goal is to simply be a space for people to come together and meet each other and talk about their experiences and interests. Eventually, we are planning to bring in speakers who are successful LGBTQ+ peoples in academia or industry and maybe even send people to LGBTQ+ STEM conferences (i.e. oSTEM). Our being so new means that people who come to our meetings will have a lot of influence in the direction that the organization goes.
