Avisare (Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator – Portfolio Company)
Grad Research Intern – BruinView Job ID# 937213

Internship Description:
Avisare is a universal supplier management portal connecting large corporations and small and mid-sized businesses for contract opportunities. We offer suppliers a centralized platform to keep their company information updated, and provide the most robust options to make sourcing a turnkey process.  Avisare is not a database; we are a network empowering the small business economy.  As a software procurement system with a social mission to grow minority, women, veteran and LGBT businesses, we donate a portion of all revenue to sponsor minority student scholarships through the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Avisare is a venture-funded company and a member of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator.

Opportunity
The Graduate Research Intern is focused on a very specific assignment regarding the diversity certification process. In this role the candidate will be expected to complete a thorough analysis of all possible diversity certifications available from every certifying body both public and private within the US. This information will be compiled in an excel spreadsheet and the candidate will work with the development team to integrate this information into a backend database for public consumption.

We are looking for a self-directed researcher who wants to be a part of an early-stage start-up team helping millions of small business owners navigate the very confusing landscape of business certifications.

Opportunity Description
Avisare is developing an algorithm-based certification online tool.  The Certification guide is a stand-alone online tool designed to help small businesses understand which diversity certifications issued by public and private certifying bodies within the US can help them win more contracts. The scope will begin with city, county, state, regional and third-party diversity certifications (minority, women, veteran, LGBT, disabled) and include ISO technology and green sustainability certifications. From there, we will expand the database to include all types of certifications.

Within this framework there are several areas in which an intern could focus, using a data synthesis/analysis and modeling approach.  One area is addressing the impact to a small business’ revenue in qualifying for certifications by the type of certification and the corollary impact on the local economy for these small businesses to hire more employees.  Another area is focusing on the economic impact to local cities and states by providing certifications and business educational opportunities.

We would prefer an intern for six months but shorter periods will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Avisare is dedicated to providing equal opportunities to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, ethnic or national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran’s status, or any other factor that is a prohibited consideration under applicable law.
