EERI Seeking Grad Student President
Earthquake Engineering Research Institute UCLA Student Chapter seeks graduate student president for upcoming year:
UCLA's
EERI student chapter will hold the final meeting of the year on
Thursday (4/23) in 4275 Boelter Hall at 6pm. You do not need to be an
EERI member to attend. Officer elections for the 2015-2016 academic year
will be held, and the President position must be held by a graduate
student conducting earthquake engineering research. Please attend the
meeting if you are interested, or contact Ben Turner (benjt11@gmail.com) for more info. Other officer positions are available as well.
In
addition to the officer elections and free dinner, this meeting serves
as our first annual "Seismic Research Showcase." Three UCLA PhD students
conducting seismic research will give brief presentations on the
importance of their work and will be available to answer questions for
undergraduate students considering pursuing a research degree:
- Sunai Kim, "Seismic Reliability of Shear Walls in Tall Core Wall Buildings"
- Yazhou Xie, "Optimal Protection Design of Highway Bridges", and
- Sam Yniesta, "Levees and Earthquakes: Averting an Impending Disaster"
